The short version: SPARC does not sell personal information or use it for third-party advertising. Many study actions work on your device. Online services are used for accounts, backup, live Lara features, payments, notifications, support, security, and fresh content.
1. Who this policy covers
This Privacy Policy applies to the SPARC mobile app, this website, and the account and support services connected to them. In this policy, “SPARC”, “we”, “us”, and “our” refer to the team responsible for the SPARC product.
SPARC is an independent education product. It is not operated by, endorsed by, or affiliated with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), any university, or any government agency.
2. Information we handle
Account and profile information
When you create an account or set up SPARC, we may handle your email address, name, exam type and date, intended course, selected subjects, target score, university goal, reminder preferences, and related setup choices.
Learning and app activity
SPARC may store your answers, scores, skipped and flagged questions, session and mock history, bookmarks, mistakes, topic coverage, readiness calculations, streaks, milestones, and study-plan activity. These records help the app work, show progress, restore eligible data, and personalise study guidance.
Lara interactions
If you use an online Lara feature, we process the message you send and a limited amount of relevant learning context, such as a subject, topic, recent result, or study goal. The app is designed not to send your account email, phone number, or full name to the language-model provider as part of a normal Lara request.
Payments and access
If you buy a Season Pass, SPARC and its payment provider process information needed to initiate, verify, and reconcile the payment, such as your email address, SPARC user identifier, payment reference, amount, status, and Season Pass period. SPARC does not receive or store your full card number, card security code, or online-banking credentials.
Support and communications
If you contact support or report a bug, we process the message, category, ticket reference, account email, replies, relevant technical details you choose to include, and the status of the support case.
Device, notification, and security information
We may process a push-notification token, app version, device or operating-system information, connection status, timestamps, and server security logs. This is used to deliver requested notifications, protect accounts, operate the service, and diagnose failures.
3. Why we use information
We use personal information only where reasonably necessary to:
- create and secure your account;
- deliver offline and online study features;
- calculate and display your own learning progress;
- back up and restore eligible account and study records;
- provide Lara Assist and, where purchased, Lara Tutor;
- process and verify a Season Pass payment;
- send notifications you have allowed;
- answer support requests and investigate bugs;
- prevent abuse, fraud, or unauthorised access;
- meet legal, accounting, and regulatory duties; and
- improve reliability and understand whether product features are working, using the least data reasonably necessary.
Depending on the context and applicable law, these uses are based on performing our agreement with you, your consent, our legitimate interest in operating a safe and useful service, or compliance with a legal obligation.
4. What local-first means
Downloaded content and many study records are stored in a database on your device so that practice can continue without a constant internet connection. When you are signed in and a connection is available, eligible profile and learning records may be sent to SPARC’s server for account backup, cross-device restoration, support, or online features.
Deleting your SPARC account removes the server-side account and associated live user data handled by SPARC, subject to the limited retention described below. Data already stored on a device may remain there until you clear the app’s storage or uninstall the app. Removing the app from one device does not, by itself, delete your online account.
5. Services that help SPARC operate
We use carefully selected providers to perform specific jobs. They may process information only as needed for those jobs:
- Supabase and SPARC-hosted infrastructure for authentication, account data, encrypted network access, backups, content delivery, and server functions.
- Language-model routing and model providers, including OpenRouter for online Lara responses. Requests use bounded learning context and are designed to exclude account contact details.
- Paystack for payment checkout, verification, and transaction records.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging for push-notification delivery when notifications are enabled.
- Resend for support receipts and email routing.
- Netlify for hosting this public website and processing ordinary web-request logs needed to deliver and protect it.
Some providers may process data in countries outside Nigeria. Where this occurs, we use the provider for a defined operational purpose and take reasonable steps to require appropriate data protection.
SPARC does not sell personal information, rent it to data brokers, or share it for third-party behavioural advertising.
6. How long information is kept
Account, profile, and eligible learning-backup data are generally kept while your account remains active. We keep support, payment, fraud-prevention, and security records only for as long as reasonably necessary to resolve the matter, maintain financial records, protect the service, or meet a legal obligation.
When an account is deleted, SPARC removes the authentication identity and associated live user records from its account tables, including the profile, learning backups, mock records, Lara records, support tickets, push token, and access record. Some limited transaction, security, or legal records may be retained where the law requires it or where necessary to establish, exercise, or defend a legal claim. Backups may take additional time to cycle out of protected systems.
See Delete your SPARC account for the current process.
7. Your choices and rights
You can change several profile and study preferences inside the app. You can also disable notifications in SPARC or in your device settings.
Subject to applicable law, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, you may ask to access, correct, erase, or restrict the use of your personal information, object to certain processing, withdraw consent where processing relies on consent, or request a portable copy where applicable. We may need to verify that you own the account before completing a request.
You may also make a complaint to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission if you believe your data-protection rights have not been respected.
8. Security
SPARC uses reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including authenticated access, row-level permissions, encrypted network connections, limited server credentials, and access controls around private support and account data. No app or internet transmission can be guaranteed completely secure, so we also encourage you to protect your email account, device lock, and sign-in details.
9. Children and students
SPARC is built for exam candidates, including students who may be under 18. If you are below the age at which you can consent to data processing on your own under applicable law, a parent or legal guardian should review and approve your use of SPARC. We do not knowingly use student data for targeted advertising.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the product, the law, or our providers change. We will publish the updated version here, change the effective date, and provide an additional notice in the app where a change materially affects how personal information is used.
